After Nintendo’s utter domination of Sega in every single platform generation, a new console war was started between Sony and Nintendo.  Sony thought it would try to take on the Nintendo franchise and learn from the mistakes of Sega. Sony succeeded in large part by beating out Nintendo with the Playstation 1 and 2. But a debate now occurs between what the better system is between the Wii and the PS3 in this most modern generation of platform gaming. Nintendo fan boys or not, the Wii is the clear winner over the PS3 for plenty of different reasons. In this list, we will go through these reasons to make clear why the Wii clearly dominates the PS3.

In case anyone didn’t know, the Wii has outsold the PS3 and the Xbox360 combined. When the Wii came out, you literally couldn’t get your hands on it. You go to a to a Best Buy or a Circuit City and play it because of how sought after this system was. Right now the exact  numbers are the Wii at 37 million sold and the PS3 at 17 million. This is clear domination. Surely there must be something that is more desirable about the Wii than the PS3 with this much of a sales difference, and in this list we will go through the top 10 reasons for the Wii’s domination.

    10. The Wii comes packaged with games

When you buy a Wii, you don’t just get a system. You get games like Wii tennis, and Wii baseball. While the graphics for Wii tennis and baseball may look simple, it takes nothing away from how fun these games are to play at no extra cost. The PS3 though, doesn’t come with any games. Nintendo went out of their way to make games to be played immediately upon purchase of the system. This reason is a no-brainer for Wii’s domination of the PS3.

    9. The Wii fit

For all you guys and girls out there with a significant other who has “put on the pounds” from eating too much and sitting in front of the TV playing too many video games, there’s a solution. It’s the Wii fit, which will make you bend and twist in ways that are only seen in an intense Yoga session. It’s not just stretches and aerobic exercises though, it’s also some incredibly innovative athletic games that will make your significant other into the shape you want them to be! You can go on massive ski jumps and can block soccer balls on difficulty levels of your choosing (depending obviously on how of shape and how much center of gravity you embody). The PS3 has nothing like this. There is nothing that on the PS3 that can make you physically fit like the innovative Wii fit does.

    8. The Wii is a family-oriented console

The Nintendo Wii console is the best family-oriented console available today. When you purchase a Wii console, there are lots of options to choose from so that you can choose the package that suits your particular household the best. The basic pack comes with the Wii Remote and Wii Sports, which features five distinct games for you to enjoy. Other packages may include one or more of the many different controllers available for the Wii as well as other games to suit your taste. The Wii takes a rather unique approach to the way in which it is used. With the easy-to-use Wii Menu which resembles TV channels, you can easily navigate with the wireless controller by simply pointing at the screen. The Wii Menu includes the Wii Mii Channel, the Wii Shop where you can purchase additional channels for your Wii console through WiiWare, and much more.

    7. Better Fans

How irritating are the fans of the Sony systems? How annoying is it to hear the non-satirical snobbery of Sony Defense Force every time the PS3 system releases a new game? The Nintendo fans know what they’re getting when a new game comes out for any Nintendo system. They know that if a Mario or Zelda is being released for the WII, it’s going to be a quality game improving on it’s past experiences. The same can’t be said for the PS3, which requires websites like Sony Defense Force to defend average to below-average games at the sake of some fanatical identity on their part. The solid foundation of the Nintendo brand creates a solid fan base that’s able to objectively judge the quality of their games. The same clearly cannot be said of the PS3 fan boys.

    6. The Wii is a funny name

The name “Wii” goes a long way for making it better than the boring sounding “Playstation 3″. If you’re one of the lucky ones who have a Wii in their own home, you get to say phrases like “Want to play with my Wii?” to your friends. You can tell your significant other “I’m going to play with my Wii”. Let’s face it, there’s many more great jokes that can be made about the Wii’s name. While this may be a seemingly absurd reason to say that one system is better than another, absurdity adds to the entertainment level of a system that is already immensely entertaining on its own.

    5. The PS3 puts too much focus on graphics and not on the games themselves

The Playstation 3’s focus on graphics trumps any substantial gaming experience. Sure, the games look real, but they aren’t much fun…just like real life! The intensity in which the Playstation systems (in particular the PS3) tried to make graphic technology as an identical mirror image of “reality” goes to show a subtle lack of imagination in creation. There really isn’t much difference between the graphics of the Gamecube and the Wii, but that’s not what Nintendo was going for. With the PS3, we get consciously clear face shots and precise walking animation that tries to create a mirror image of reality. This overt focus on reality and not on the games themselves goes a long way for defining the motivations of a platform system.

    4. Price

The price difference between the Wii and the PS3 is obvious to most gamers. The Wii is usually at least $200 cheaper than the PS3. What qualifies this massive leap in expense from the Wii to the PS3? It surely can’t be the PS3’s DVD option. I could go out to Target and get a DVD player for $30 dollars instead of paying an extra $200 for the DVD player on the PS3. Maybe it’s all that realistic graphic technology that makes the PS3 enormously expensive. There has not been a gaming system more expensive than the PS3 in the video game platform history. When considering how much more innovation and quality has gone into the gameplay of the Wii, it’s amazing to think that the PS3 is that much more expensive.

    3. Better Multiplayer Action

Being able to play the Wii sports catalogue with four friends all swinging the Wii’s controller around proves to be enormous fun. As always, Nintendo looks after it’s multiplayer action with the care that has went into all it’s other systems. After all, Nintendo is the creator and owner of the Mario Kart series. The PS3 comes nowhere close to the multiplayer enjoy ability of the Wii. One could make the case that the Xbox360 beats out the Wii in Multiplayer entertainment, but certainly not the PS3. What game is better than just one of the games in the Wii’s sports collection in the context of multiplayer gaming? We’re interested in anyone’s suggestions.

    2. The PS3 is derivative and the Wii is innovative

In terms of innovation, the Wii kills the PS3. From the astoundingly innovative Wii controllers(that embody perfect motion sensory for their tennis and boxing games) to the aesthetic texture of the Wii games themselves, gaming was taken into a fantasy realm it never experienced before in any other system. What is the PS3? It’s basically the same thing as the PS2 except with a new graphics card, while the PS2 was the same thing as the PS1 except with a new graphics card. We see where Sony puts it’s focus in their platform systems. Telling the difference between the PS2 and PS3 is difficult except the obvious (faster and more realistic graphics). Play something as simple as the first Mario installment for the Wii and you will be playing a game you have never played before although using an obviously familiar protagonist.

    1. Better Games

Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, Wii Bowling? These games will make you break a sweat. Playing these games will bring you into a massive world with interminable gaming quality. The Wii made games open to the masses in a way that had never been done before, even arguably the NES! Can the same be said for the PS3? Grand Theft Auto 4…boring, Warhawk even more dull, Heavenly Sword…all graphics and no creative storyline. The list of games that focus too much on graphic technology (one of our reasons above) and not on the gaming experience itself, goes on an on. Whereas the Wii focuses on things like strong storylines and re-playability. This is hard to find on the PS3. The PS3 keeps releasing new games though, but they keep lacking in the quality embodied in the Wii games.

  1. ya it scored pretty well and it was a pretty good game IMO. but if you want a good RE game I don’t recommend it. and there are reasons not to like some of the wii games i mentioned, but most I stand by.

  2. the most expensive system is the sega nomad, or genesis portable. then 3D0. then Apple Pippin, which costs as much as PS3, but it is worse, so i’ll just say it’s more expensive. then PS3.

  3. Actually I believe the Neo-Geo might have been the most expensive home console. If I’m recalling correctly, it debuted at the same price as the PS3 did when it first came-out, and this was in the early 90’s. After inflation, the Neo-Geo was over $1,000. The 3DO actually was priced higher than the PS3 was at debut, and also after inflation the price is even higher.

I don’t think the Nomad was more expensive than the PS3(MAYBE after inflation, but I’m not sure), and while the Apple/Bandai Pippin was cost about the same as the PS3’s debut, it was viewed more as a computer that happened to have a bit more focus on games than typical of Apple than a true game console.

  4. well i don’t know much about the neo-geo other than it’s name so i wouldn’t have known. also i have never heard the apple pippin referred to as a computer…

  5. Neo-Geo arcades, at least the original and far more successful one(apparently the Hyper Neo-Geo 64 was a failure) are actually still around in what few places still have Arcades, but they mostly are just good for METAL SLUG. The home console was almost the exact same hardware as the arcade version, with most of the things like the processors(I think it had an 8-bit processor and a 16-bit processor), sound card and probably video card, were the same hardware found in the arcade unit. The Neo-Geo arcade was actually pretty impressive for it’s time, as not only was it a pretty powerful arcade when it came-out, but it allowed multiple different ROM cartridges to be put in, so you could have up to 6 different games to chose from. This was good economically for two reasons. One: it meant you could have multiple games in the same spot for those with limited space for arcade cabinets, and Two: When you wanted to replace an old game, all you had to do was swap-out the ROM cartridges and put in a new one. This was comparatively cheap over buying an entirely new arcade unit, as I think they cost from $150-$350 to an entire arcade unit costing more around $1,000 or more.

The Neo-Geo home system also had most of it’s games as pretty much the exact same games for the arcades, since the hardware was the same as the arcade. And the Neo-Geo arcade games were really good. Had some good Arcade Sports games, had some great 2D Action games, had a lot of really addictive Shooters(not FPS games, games like DEFENDER and 1942 for examples), and Neo-Geo was the greatest and most successful company for Fighting games after CAPCOM. It was the one that put-out the most STREET FIGHTER II clones, but at least they put-out mostly quality games that were at least 8 out of 10 worthy.

Fighting game fanatics had to get the Neo-Geo home console since at the time the Neo-Geo was the only console where the Fighting games at home were as good as the ones in the Arcades. Too bad it wasn’t enough to save it. The console was much too expensive at the time for the average consumer, and what really killed it was the cost for the games too. The cartridges, while relatively inexpensive for an arcade room operator, were quite pricey for a home system, since they were pretty much the same cartridges for the arcade. Some cost $300 or even more, and I think all of them were priced at over $100. You see how people bitched about the move to the 360/PS3 generation having the games go from $50 to $60, well just think about how $50 cost more back then. You could probably get BOTH an SNES and a Sega Genesis for the same price as some of the games for the Neo-Geo.

They tried to save it with a CD-ROM system similar to the Sega CD and Nintendo’s aborted CD-ROM peripheral for the SNES, but I don’t think it was made for anything beyond playing games on CD-ROMs. The unit was pricey though less than the original cartridge version, didn’t enhance the games like the SegaCD did, and had some pretty long load times. I don’t think there were too many games for it.

You must be pretty young to know little about the Neo-Geo, they were pretty big in the early and mid 90’s in the Arcades. God I feel so old.

  6. I am not sure why you said ”AT LEAST they produced mostly quality games.”

  7. so you don’t like heavenly sword cause of ”no creative story line” but you like wii sports?

  8. didn’t CD-i cost 1,000 dollars?

  9. Fraught:
    10.like what?
    9.agreed.
8.you didn’t read this did you?
7.but do you deny that sony has worse fans?
    6.agreed.
5:already took care of this one.
4:agreed except that it needs better graphics. graphics don’t make the game.
3:when you talk about racing games, do u mean Gran Turismo and realistic stuff? if so… meh.
2:the wii motion controls are actually pretty good, contrary to popular belief.
    1:whatever.

  10. FPs’s…oh, those are easily among my least favorite genres.

  11. Umm what games on wii do you even like besides SSBB wii sports and any Mario game Zeromage?
The only ones i like are wii sports and SSBB (and yes i do have a wii and a decent number of games)

It’s funny how you mention Wii Bowling as a really standout game for the Wii. Now that’s pathetic. Let’s reverse that, shall we?
Top 10 Reasons Why PS3 Is Better Than The Wii.
    10. Graphical Performance
Whatever you say, guys, graphics do matter. And when you compare the Wii to other gaming consoles of this and even the last generation… Yeah. All the Wii can do is run a nicely-looking cartoony games but when it comes to realistics graphics they can’t do crap.
    9. Inovation doesn’t last long.
Yup, after getting fed up with Wii sports, you go play Infamous and Killzone 2, unoriginal but really immersive games.
    8. BluRay
Not so important but I like the convenience of watching movies on my console.
    7. Better fans
Yes, I said it, I am fed up with retarded Nintendo fanboys.
    6. Better producing company
Yes, Sony has had its share of “giant enemy crabs” and “Riiiiiiidge Racers” but Nintendo is having more of them. Like, right now.
    5. One controller necessary
Let’s face it, to get the full Wii experience you need to buy a lot of additional crap.
    4. Better exclusives
I assure you on that. The PS3 had problems with that, but now the exclusives are impressive as hell. But let’s compare them, shall we?
    The Wii:
SSBB, Mario Kart, Super Mario Galaxy 1-2 (I’m couting unreleased games too, for some reason), Metroid: Other Something, A ton of samey Zelda games, No More Heroes, Madworld… Oh waot, the new cooperative Mario game. Don’t you see it guys, all Nintendo does is squeeze new games out of their tired franchises (especially Zelda0
    The PS3:
MGS4, Killzone 2, Resistance 1-2, Uncharted 1-2, Heavy Rain (for that game alone I would buy a PS3), God Of War 3, Little Big Planet, S.O.C.O.M, Warhawk, M.A.G., Infamous, Motorstorm 1-2, Valkyria Chronicles, Gran Turismo. Now that’s an impressive list.
    3. The PS3 isn’t a family-oriented console.
Because video gaming isn’t for soccer moms.
    2. Better Online Play.
100% sure on that. Name me a good Wii online multiplayer game. Mario Kart and? Let’s face it, the Wii is good at hot-seat but when it comes to online (that allows you to enjoy multiplayer games even with no friends around), it is laughable. Seriously, PSN is 100 times better than this. And the friend codes. Oooh, the friend codes…
    1. Better fucking games.
All of the Wii’s major titles are exculsives. While PS3 shares its library with the Xbox360 or PC. Let’s face it, 9 out of 10 Wii games are shit – annoying stick waggling minigames or half-assed ports of the PS2 versio with… annoying stick waggling minigames. The Wii fanboys don’t just miss out on other console exclusives, they miss out on great multiplatform games of all genres. They miss out on Call Of Duty, Rainbow Six, Fifa and NHL next-gen games, Prototype, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Star Wars: TFU (the good version), Battlefield, Half-Life, Portal and Team Fortress… And that’s not to mention the awesome XBL and PSN arcade games.
Not to start any console wars here but I have never seen such a one-sided, biased and outright stupid view on a console competition.

  13. even with lbp, the ps3=FAIL

Ok… I agree that the Wii has better marketing but overall better? I don’t think so! I don’t care it it’s family oriented or if even a child can play it. It’s not that great.

1st:The only games I play on my wii are SSBB, but that’s it. I’ve beat all my other games and got bored with them. Not many Wii games have a high replay value. The only games that do are the ones you get from the shop. Most of them are their old Nintendo games.

2nd:If you hack your PS3 you can play the Wii or any of the other F-ing games you can get on the wii and yes you can even use the Wii-mote you just need to Mod your PS3.

    3rd:Downloadable content is WAY better.

Now fans of ther wii are even more annoying because they are usually kids who have yet reached puberty or someone who does not even know what the power button is.

I will agree the Wii-fit is fun and it’s fun to watch a girl on it. :D

Wii is a funny name, but it’s getting boring.

I’m guessing this is an old post because to my knowledge the PS3 is $300 now and when It was not it was still worth it even though I’d rather have the slim.

I think the DS is better than the Wii. At least I touch my DS. I only touch my Wii when I’m in the mood. (Pun intended)

  15. While I enjoy the PS3 more, as I think that the selection of good/great games is deeper, both consoles are absolutely outstanding. Still, though, I do have and love both systems, both are great, and gamers are lucky to have either/both systems. They’re very different in what they offer and in their appeal, and there’s plenty of room for both of these great systems in the world of gaming. It’s a good article and raises good points and interesting opinions, though (the makers of this site are entitled to their opinions, after all).

This list is a total waste of time. If you didn’t spend all of your time making list you could have time for excercise at a gym or running, or you could spend your time making FRIENDS and go bowling in REAL LIFE! Instead your wasting your time with a bunch of bad ass list. First of all get up to date with the times. It is 2009 not 1980. Get Zelda’s DICK out your mouth, Find a new Hobby. Let’s talk about this list. First of all, who in the hell do you think you are. Im not that much of a fan of the PS3 but WTF. The Wii are you shitting me. WHat the hell is the plot to Wii bowling????? Fuck you and your damn family. Oh that’s right your alone. YOU FAIL AT LIFE! This ain’t hate mail this the truth. “want to play GTA 4?” “no thanks i have Final Fantasy 1 and pac man” Who the hell thinks that the wii is better. The Wii is as crappy as fucking SNES. Your probably some 50 year old bastard who doesn’t even have a family. Do you even have a job? The Wii is innovative. The Wii is the reason children stay in their house with no friends no money and fail in school. Better multiplayer action. When was the last time you played a good game. IF anything the Wii is good at stealing ideas. The only good games that the Wii has are stolen from XBOX 360 and the PS3. That’s just fucking disgusting.
You know fuck this shit I’m out

    * Rhetorical questions end in a period because I don’
    t care.

    P.s Fuck You

By the way you people that actually think this list is true are brain dead. Do you people actually think the Wii is better. That’s like saying Hitler was a pacifist.
Nitendo doesn’t even have money to make a regular size disk. I could crush the Wii disk in my bare hands. Back
to the commenters of the list. Answer this question. What the hell is Neo-Geo and 3d0. Some of these people sound like they came from a time when flashing buttons and flying saucers made a movie. That whole fucking generation were retards. Here my list

10 resons why you can suck these balls:

    10: Fuck you
    9: Fuck you
    8: Fuck you
    7: You opinion doesnt matter
6: You’re the only person on this site that makes lists.
    5: Fuck you again.
    4: ^ just a little bit more
3: You’re stuck in the time machine of your parent’s basement playing SNES
2: You wear a shield of perpetual chastity
    1: You wear elve’s robes.
