Top 10 Most Powerful Superheroes of All Time
Here it is folks, the biggest debate on the whole interweb. Never has there been a more well thought out argument for a completely non-existent thing. Which superhero could beat up which other superhero. Never has a group of people spent more time drawing graphs, doing calculations, making charts, and writing computer programs to prove that the hero they love is in fact the toughest. These people do more literature searches than a graduate student writing their dissertation on literature. One can only imagine what world problems could be solved if comic book nerds would instead focus this same energy on say; poverty, healthcare, the climate, pollution, the economy, childhood obesity, cancer, sudden infant death syndrome, racism, genetic disorders, violence against women, the melting ice caps, sending a man to mars, depression, solving Goldbach’s conjecture, creating a unified field theory, un-raveling the mystery of DNA, figuring out what happened before the big bang, resolving religious tensions in the Middle East, finding peace on Earth, making cleaner cars, sustainable energy, nuclear fission, getting rid of hippies, and the million other things that would make this world a better place to live in.
So in order to finish this debate once and for all we here at OW have finally finished THE list of the most powerful superheros. This is it folks. As every faithful reader knows that we here at OW are always right, we have proved it in the past. There can no longer be any debate. No more argument required. This list has taken us years to complete, and has threatened to destroy all that is OW. While making this list there was lots arguing, name calling, some shouting, a little bit of snuggling, more shouting, lots of your momma’s, but we finally came up with the definitive list of the most powerful superheroes of all time. We can’t be more clear on that last point, this is it. None of what you are about to read is opinion, it is fact. Next time one of your nerd buddies starts to argue you need only refer to this list, kindly pat him the head a give him one of the problems listed above to argue about. Here’s how we did it. First we excluded all super villains, this is heroes only, next we eliminated all exorbitantly overpowered cosmic beings (Phoenix, Odin, or the Highfather). And finally we ignored all heroes that would be considered ‘normal’ but have similar powers as those listed below. Then we plugged in all the facts and figures into the OW super computer and waited. Exactly 137 days later the answer was spit out. It then took us one year to figure out what that answer meant. Finally its over, these are the most powerful superheroes. Fact.
10. The Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
Despite coming in at number 10, The Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) is one tough hombre. As a member of the Green Lantern Corps, he wields a power ring that can generate a variety of effects and energy constructs, sustained purely by the ring wearer’s strength of will. The greater the user’s willpower, the more effective the ring. The limits of the power ring’s abilities are never defined, but it has been referred to as “the most powerful weapon in the universe” on more than one occasion. It’s precious. Over the years, the ring has been shown capable of accomplishing almost anything within the imagination of the ring bearer. Often the rings are used to form solid-light constructs, the power and size of which are limited only by the ring-bearer’s willpower. And, if that wasn’t powerful enough, DC recently (in 2006) retconned the ring’s longtime lack of effect on yellow objects, stating that the ring-bearer need only feel fear and overcome it in order to affect yellow objects. With his protective bubbles and mean green energy bursts, the Green Lantern has fought with, and at varying times against, such heavyweights as Superman and Captain Marvel. But he’s still no match for number 9 on our list…9. Doctor Strange
Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Steven Strange, has unparalleled sagicity of the mystic arts, and stands as humanity’s first and last line of defense against all magic-based menaces that threaten our dimension. I think Doc Strange is probably one of the more powerful characters in the Marvel Universe, and light years ahead of any of the crappy sorcerers from DC (although Zatanna is way hotter). Given that he can do pretty much anything that the person who is currently writing him can imagine, he could potentially beat any of the other characters in this list. In fact, he could probably beat some of them by simply wiggling his finger. Of course this assumes that he would enough time to do so. The problem is that most of the other heroes on this list won’t give him even that small amount of time. His lack of super speed, super reaction time, super senses and any sort of super human invulnerability, make Dr. Strange one of the easiest characters to defeat on this list. For this reason alone we put Dr. Strange at #5. If he had unlimited prep time before each fight, he could easily be number one on this list.8. Black Bolt
Our seventh most powerful superhero of all time is Black Bolt, the king of the offshoot of humanity known as the inhumans. Black Bolt has often been described as one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel universe by other heroes, and for good reason. Through electron gathering and manipulation, Black Bolt can increase any aspect of his physical nature to superhuman levels, including his strength, speed, stamina and durability. In times of great need, he can channel this power into a single devastating punch called “The Master Blow”. He can also harness the electrons for matter transformation; the controlled projection of energy as concussive blasts or quasi-solid particle/electron fiends, broadcasting jamming frequencies, and flight. But Black Bolt’s most salient offensive weapon is his cacophonous voice, as a hypersonic shout that can level an entire city, and his merest whisper has been shown capable of stunning the Hulk. It’s even been suggested that his voice is capable of destroying an entire planet.7. The Flash
People who don’t know a lot about comic books often assume that the Flash can run really fast, but is otherwise a normal guy. He can turn his opponent into a statue, or phase his hand through his opponent’s head, causing it to explode. He is also impressively durable for a normal human, and most, though not all, of his impressive feats of durability have been while moving faster than normal. Many times he’s taken hits from Class-100 opponents, various energy blasts, ect. and ranged from quickly recovers to unfazed. Not only is Flash faster than Pre-CRISIS Kryptonians(and Silver Age Superman was so fast, not only count he travel through time and dimensions through speed, but he nearly broke the barrier between Life And Death and was about to crash into Heaven), but he’ll probably have a few examples of simply phasing through to avoid, as well. And Flash doesn’t need to cause the charge that causes matter to explode every time he vibrates through something.6. The Martian Manhunter
The Martian Manhunter’s chief super power is super strength. Super strength and durability. His two powers are super strength, durability and flight. His three powers are super strength, durability, flight and shapeshifting. Amongst his many powers are super strength, durability, flight and shapeshifting… I’ll come in again. The Martian Manhunter is basically the Swiss army knife of Superheroes. Along with all those powers, he has super speed and “Martian” vision, both at levels close to those of Superman himself. He not only can turn invisible but also alter his density to become incredibly strong, tough and ultimately intangible. In addition to his physical powers, J’onn is also a very powerful telepath. He also possesses 9 different senses, though these are ill defined and often forgotten by comic book writers. And if superhuman physical strength and mental powers aren’t enough, J’onn also has the ability to regenerate. In the past he’s even regenerated his entire body from only his severed hand.Pages: 1 2

In Endless Nights Rao the God is asked why he didn’t save Krypton……He answers basically in question form…..Would it be more beautiful to save the planet and let all live, or destroy the planet, but out of that destruction spring new life?
March 15th, 2010 at 3:49 am
which was?
March 15th, 2010 at 3:51 am
Its all about the beauty of life….Rao the sun…savagely destroyed Kryton….only to spring forth a son that on another planet becomes (like) a god to its inhabitants.
March 15th, 2010 at 3:54 am
Rao was what sustained life on Krypton, much like our Sun does for us…..how many ancient peoples has thought of our Sun as a literal god?
March 15th, 2010 at 3:55 am
I though the whole argument was becasue Superman was not a cosmic beign, which He is
March 15th, 2010 at 3:55 am
Banudorm : I think Rao did good since he knew the Kryptonians were destroying and killing each other. He must have known that Earth was doing the same thing and he wanted to send Kal-El to act as a referee.
March 15th, 2010 at 3:58 am
Superman: New krypton
Rao, in the time just before and after the destruction of Krypton, is thought of by the people of Krypton like God in the [Abrahamic Religions]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_in_Abrahamic_religions. He is all knowing, all powerful and eternal. He is served by his minor gods, who could be better understood as his angels. Each minor god is worshiped by a guild or caste on Krypton while all people worshiped Rao. The people of Krypton call their powers under a yellow sun the power of Rao. The high priest of Krypton is said to be the Voice of Rao and only speaks to voice Rao’s judgment.
Rao works through avatars. The Nightwing and the Flamebird are two mythological dragon/phoenix creatures who serve Rao: Nightwing of ice and Flamebird of Fire. Each generation, Nightwing and Flamebird are reborn in two individuals who are blessed with a great love for each other that is doomed to end tragically in death. It is said that just before the destruction of Krypton the Nightwing and Flamebird of that generation tried to avoid each other, believing themselves to be crazy to feel the influence of the myths.
more wiki for yah…..
March 15th, 2010 at 3:59 am
No, the argument is can he beat Franklin Richards by himself?
March 15th, 2010 at 4:03 am
Who?
March 15th, 2010 at 4:04 am
Who Superman?
March 15th, 2010 at 4:05 am
I think there’s a case that Frank could if he wanted almost easily dispatch the whole marvel universe and create a new one with him as God.
So I’d say that It’s feasible that he could take care of #1 Thor
March 15th, 2010 at 4:06 am
He can’t fight supes….But he can fight Thor, I don’t think he’d need to thow.
March 15th, 2010 at 4:08 am
Wasn’t Franklyn the one who actually saved Thor against Onslaught?
Of course He can!!!
Franklin is to powerful for the list and He does not even know how to control his power
March 15th, 2010 at 4:08 am
Franklin Richards is powerfull but he’s far away from being the most powerfull being in the Universe. Like I said, Rock Keeper Captain Marvel is WAYY ahead of him. RK Captain Marvel is Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, he knows every magic that exist in the world, etc..
March 15th, 2010 at 4:11 am
I didn’t know Rock Keeper Captain Marvel could create realities.
March 15th, 2010 at 4:14 am
@Banudorm
According to definition, when you are Omnipotent you can do anything, when you are Omniscient you know everything, when you are Omnipresent you are everywhere, So yes by definition Rock Keeper Captain Marvel could create realities
March 15th, 2010 at 4:18 am
Rock Keeper Captain Marvel can even be equal to The Presence. There is just not much information about him. He became the Rock Keeper after the death of Shazam who was killed by The Spectre.
March 15th, 2010 at 4:19 am
actually there’s multiple definitions for each and they ALL refer to gods
March 15th, 2010 at 4:20 am
which is another discussion as to whether there is a such thing a GOD
March 15th, 2010 at 4:21 am
Keeper of the Rock of Eternity: Batson formerly had been advanced to the position of the Wizard Shazam after the Wizard Shazam’s spirit had been been dispersed by the Spectre. As the new Guardian of the Rock of Eternity, Billy possessed even more power then he had as “Captain Marvel”
All of Batson’s original magical powers as “Captain Marvel” had been increased way beyond those previous levels. As the Guardian of the Rock of Eternity, Batson was one with the Rock as it is a part of him. Batson was able to channel the energies of the primal God-wave and the Greek Lords of Magic through the Rock of Eternity.[citation needed] In that state Batson was infused with the duty to keep the power and the magic of the earth realm in balance. As keeper of the Rock of Eternity Batson also held the dark forces at bay.
Inherent Omnipresent: Apparently possessing the power to be everywhere, at all times (i.e. multiple dimensions and places in time).
Inherent Omniscience: Apparently possessing the power to know anything that he chooses to know and can be known.
Inherent Omnipotent: Apparently possessing the vast magical powers, and ability to make anything he wants.
Telepathy: Ability to read the minds of others and project thoughts.
Sorcery: As the High Lord of Magic, Batson has omnipotent mastery of magics and mysticism. He truly knows magic and can cast any spell to achieve any powerful results. He has unlimited access to Personal, Universal and Dimensional Energies.
Cosmic Awareness: Power to sense the presence of beings and objects in the universe.
Immortal
March 15th, 2010 at 4:22 am
is called a paradox
March 15th, 2010 at 4:23 am
Gotta go c ya
March 15th, 2010 at 4:30 am
Id say there equals…Franklin has the ability to make it so that he does know all, can do all, the thing holding him back is that he decided to create his own mental block….Even the Creators of the Marvel universe say he’s on par with them….essentially if he ever decided that he wanted to be GOD of all he could make it so.
March 15th, 2010 at 4:30 am
i mean the creators that are in the marvel universe that is
March 15th, 2010 at 4:34 am
I doubt that Franklin is equal to the One Above All.
March 15th, 2010 at 4:41 am
Powers and abilities
Franklin is a mutant who possesses the power to warp reality on a cosmic scale, i.e., to make any thought or desire come to fruition; conjunctively, he can rearrange the molecular structure of matter. In the Heroes Reborn: The Return limited series, Franklin is described as a “being whom the Celestials felt was on par with themselves.”[9] In addition to reality and molecular manipulation, Franklin has vast psionic powers that have manifested as telepathy, telekinesis, energy blasts of concussive force (in adulthood), precognition, and astral projection
Guess it was the Celestials…Marvels Gods
March 15th, 2010 at 4:45 am
Celestials aren’t above the One Above all.
March 15th, 2010 at 4:46 am
Powers and abilities
The Celestials are depicted as being capable of almost any feat, with Fantastic Four member Reed Richards theorizing that the Celestials’ source of power is Hyperspace itself – the source of all energy in the Marvel Universe.[10] The characters were capable of reducing the Asgardian construct known as the Destroyer — thought to be indestructible — to slag (at a time when the Destroyer was imbued with the life force of all Asgardian gods with the exception of Thor);[11] can move planets at will;[12] and create, contain, or seal off pocket universes.[13] The Celestials also appear capable of instant regeneration as blows from the Odinsword (wielded by the Destroyer) were repaired within seconds.[14] According to the Dreaming Celestial, the entities cannot truly be destroyed, even by other Celestial
March 15th, 2010 at 4:47 am
Id say for a little boy he’s pretty damn powerful
March 15th, 2010 at 4:48 am
One celestial got in a fight with Odin and Odin barley scratched him
March 15th, 2010 at 4:54 am
Your not listening. Celestials aren’t even close to the One Above All.
March 15th, 2010 at 4:56 am
it goes
one-above-all
Tribunal
Celestial
Eon,Galactus etc
March 15th, 2010 at 4:57 am
So what would Rock watching Captian Marvel be akin to?
March 15th, 2010 at 5:08 am
? akin to?
March 15th, 2010 at 5:10 am
If Franklin is on par with the Celestials, which is above all Greek and Norse gods..what would Captain Marvel be on par with
March 15th, 2010 at 5:17 am
Granted this is Captain Marvel with the rock…I’d probably have to give in and say that he’d be on par with the Tribunal.
Thow you’d prob have to say that Franklin could easily dispatch every other chracter on the list besides him then right?
March 15th, 2010 at 5:21 am
So
#1 Captain Marvel(with the rock)
#2 Franklin Richards
really know one else is any comp
March 15th, 2010 at 5:28 am
God damn man, can you post all of your thoughts in one post and wait for replies rather than taking up multiple pages. What you are doing is not debating, but rather filibustering.
Do you not comprehend what Being Omni powerful is? Rockwatching Captain Marvel is above everyone being that he is Omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, if there is another being that is all powerful they are equal. Its that simple.
March 15th, 2010 at 5:28 am
Captain Marvel with the rock is above the Tribunal.
March 15th, 2010 at 5:33 am
Franklin Richards is most certainly not right below Captain Marvel Rockwatcher, I dont care how much you want to think he is, but thats certainly not accurate.
He is not omni powerful, or even close, there are many characters with abilities just like his or even greater.
March 15th, 2010 at 5:34 am
i don’t so….look at the tribunals power ….it is has all the omni’s the only thing above it is the one-above-all
first of the rock was created….shazam was created
the can’t become the creator
March 15th, 2010 at 5:36 am
funny enough all these things can actually be taken or lost by or from Captain Marvel.
Franklin was actually born with his gifts.
March 15th, 2010 at 5:38 am
Who care he was born with them? Are you jealous? Franklin isn’t Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent. Captain Marvel EVEN possess Unlimited Magic powers. He got Superman strenght, speed, can fly, etc.. Franklin is pretty much limited.
March 15th, 2010 at 5:39 am
Franklin can just create a universe where he has thows powers lol
March 15th, 2010 at 5:47 am
Just like Captain Marvel… We are talking about a fight between the two. Captain Marvel has ALL the advantages.
March 15th, 2010 at 5:48 am
Funny enough you seem pretty hostile….calling me a kid….saying I’m jealous….It’s just comics to me I was actually just curious whether Franklin even belonged…You started to be hostile for some odd reason when I brought up Dr. Manhattan…when you told me that I basically didn’t know what I was talking about and that some dude showed you that light when it comes to superman.
I never once said that either Manhattan or Franklin was #1 ……but sure enough as soon as I brought up Franklin…..oh no oh no he has nothen on supes.
Come to find out supes isn’t even in the same league as Franklins
March 15th, 2010 at 5:50 am
He can basically do the same thing as captain marvel with the stone which he will eventually lose anyways lol….that up-surd. The only way Franklin can lose his power is if he does it to himself on purpose.
March 15th, 2010 at 5:53 am
Honestly no one on list can touch Franklin….the writers don’t even know what they want to do with him he’s so powerful…
March 15th, 2010 at 5:56 am
lol if he was in DC he could create his on stone ….he has control of all matter in the universe
March 15th, 2010 at 5:59 am
I think I’ve proven this list to be a joke.
There’s a little boy who can rip apart the whole universe and create a new one and he’s not on the list …..that amazes me.
