Top 10 Most Powerful Superheroes of All Time
Here it is folks, the biggest debate on the whole interweb. Never has there been a more well thought out argument for a completely non-existent thing. Which superhero could beat up which other superhero. Never has a group of people spent more time drawing graphs, doing calculations, making charts, and writing computer programs to prove that the hero they love is in fact the toughest. These people do more literature searches than a graduate student writing their dissertation on literature. One can only imagine what world problems could be solved if comic book nerds would instead focus this same energy on say; poverty, healthcare, the climate, pollution, the economy, childhood obesity, cancer, sudden infant death syndrome, racism, genetic disorders, violence against women, the melting ice caps, sending a man to mars, depression, solving Goldbach’s conjecture, creating a unified field theory, un-raveling the mystery of DNA, figuring out what happened before the big bang, resolving religious tensions in the Middle East, finding peace on Earth, making cleaner cars, sustainable energy, nuclear fission, getting rid of hippies, and the million other things that would make this world a better place to live in.
So in order to finish this debate once and for all we here at OW have finally finished THE list of the most powerful superheros. This is it folks. As every faithful reader knows that we here at OW are always right, we have proved it in the past. There can no longer be any debate. No more argument required. This list has taken us years to complete, and has threatened to destroy all that is OW. While making this list there was lots arguing, name calling, some shouting, a little bit of snuggling, more shouting, lots of your momma’s, but we finally came up with the definitive list of the most powerful superheroes of all time. We can’t be more clear on that last point, this is it. None of what you are about to read is opinion, it is fact. Next time one of your nerd buddies starts to argue you need only refer to this list, kindly pat him the head a give him one of the problems listed above to argue about. Here’s how we did it. First we excluded all super villains, this is heroes only, next we eliminated all exorbitantly overpowered cosmic beings (Phoenix, Odin, or the Highfather). And finally we ignored all heroes that would be considered ‘normal’ but have similar powers as those listed below. Then we plugged in all the facts and figures into the OW super computer and waited. Exactly 137 days later the answer was spit out. It then took us one year to figure out what that answer meant. Finally its over, these are the most powerful superheroes. Fact.
10. The Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
Despite coming in at number 10, The Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) is one tough hombre. As a member of the Green Lantern Corps, he wields a power ring that can generate a variety of effects and energy constructs, sustained purely by the ring wearer’s strength of will. The greater the user’s willpower, the more effective the ring. The limits of the power ring’s abilities are never defined, but it has been referred to as “the most powerful weapon in the universe” on more than one occasion. It’s precious. Over the years, the ring has been shown capable of accomplishing almost anything within the imagination of the ring bearer. Often the rings are used to form solid-light constructs, the power and size of which are limited only by the ring-bearer’s willpower. And, if that wasn’t powerful enough, DC recently (in 2006) retconned the ring’s longtime lack of effect on yellow objects, stating that the ring-bearer need only feel fear and overcome it in order to affect yellow objects. With his protective bubbles and mean green energy bursts, the Green Lantern has fought with, and at varying times against, such heavyweights as Superman and Captain Marvel. But he’s still no match for number 9 on our list…9. Doctor Strange
Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Steven Strange, has unparalleled sagicity of the mystic arts, and stands as humanity’s first and last line of defense against all magic-based menaces that threaten our dimension. I think Doc Strange is probably one of the more powerful characters in the Marvel Universe, and light years ahead of any of the crappy sorcerers from DC (although Zatanna is way hotter). Given that he can do pretty much anything that the person who is currently writing him can imagine, he could potentially beat any of the other characters in this list. In fact, he could probably beat some of them by simply wiggling his finger. Of course this assumes that he would enough time to do so. The problem is that most of the other heroes on this list won’t give him even that small amount of time. His lack of super speed, super reaction time, super senses and any sort of super human invulnerability, make Dr. Strange one of the easiest characters to defeat on this list. For this reason alone we put Dr. Strange at #5. If he had unlimited prep time before each fight, he could easily be number one on this list.8. Black Bolt
Our seventh most powerful superhero of all time is Black Bolt, the king of the offshoot of humanity known as the inhumans. Black Bolt has often been described as one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel universe by other heroes, and for good reason. Through electron gathering and manipulation, Black Bolt can increase any aspect of his physical nature to superhuman levels, including his strength, speed, stamina and durability. In times of great need, he can channel this power into a single devastating punch called “The Master Blow”. He can also harness the electrons for matter transformation; the controlled projection of energy as concussive blasts or quasi-solid particle/electron fiends, broadcasting jamming frequencies, and flight. But Black Bolt’s most salient offensive weapon is his cacophonous voice, as a hypersonic shout that can level an entire city, and his merest whisper has been shown capable of stunning the Hulk. It’s even been suggested that his voice is capable of destroying an entire planet.7. The Flash
People who don’t know a lot about comic books often assume that the Flash can run really fast, but is otherwise a normal guy. He can turn his opponent into a statue, or phase his hand through his opponent’s head, causing it to explode. He is also impressively durable for a normal human, and most, though not all, of his impressive feats of durability have been while moving faster than normal. Many times he’s taken hits from Class-100 opponents, various energy blasts, ect. and ranged from quickly recovers to unfazed. Not only is Flash faster than Pre-CRISIS Kryptonians(and Silver Age Superman was so fast, not only count he travel through time and dimensions through speed, but he nearly broke the barrier between Life And Death and was about to crash into Heaven), but he’ll probably have a few examples of simply phasing through to avoid, as well. And Flash doesn’t need to cause the charge that causes matter to explode every time he vibrates through something.6. The Martian Manhunter
The Martian Manhunter’s chief super power is super strength. Super strength and durability. His two powers are super strength, durability and flight. His three powers are super strength, durability, flight and shapeshifting. Amongst his many powers are super strength, durability, flight and shapeshifting… I’ll come in again. The Martian Manhunter is basically the Swiss army knife of Superheroes. Along with all those powers, he has super speed and “Martian” vision, both at levels close to those of Superman himself. He not only can turn invisible but also alter his density to become incredibly strong, tough and ultimately intangible. In addition to his physical powers, J’onn is also a very powerful telepath. He also possesses 9 different senses, though these are ill defined and often forgotten by comic book writers. And if superhuman physical strength and mental powers aren’t enough, J’onn also has the ability to regenerate. In the past he’s even regenerated his entire body from only his severed hand.Pages: 1 2

Thanks, Steve. Alberto, I don’t think we can assume that just b/c Ultraman lifted it by himself, that Superman could as well. As you are fond of pointing out, different characters evolve/get more or less powerful over time. How do we know Ultraman didn’t “power up”? Superman sure sounded like he needed Captain Marvel’s help earlier in the issue. And he looked COMPLETELY SHOCKED that Ultraman lifted it himself.
March 14th, 2010 at 7:56 pm
When have I talked about the Hulk? I made ONE COMMENT saying I think he is the PHYSICALLY STRONGEST hero.
March 14th, 2010 at 8:08 pm
Wow, I checked that wikipedia article to confirm and its true. I can’t believe LA is only 2.5 on the UN’s pollution scale.
March 14th, 2010 at 8:15 pm
@Rick
So? What is your point? My dear elitist and prejudist friend?
I KNOW MEXICO CITY IS A DIRTY CITY, DID I SAID OTHERWISE?
The only thing I see there is cities with a high density of population like:
No. 2: Dhaka, Bangladesh
No. 3: Antananarivo, Madagascar
No. 5: Mexico City, Mexico
No. 7: Mumbai, India
or small cities ravaged by war and poor infraestructure, not close to the size of mexico city. If any of this cities were of the size of Mexico city, they will be in worst shape
No. 1: Baku, Azerbaijan
No. 4: Port au Prince, Haiti
No. 6: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
No. 8: Baghdad, Iraq
No. 9: Almaty, Kazakhstan
No. 10: Brazzaville, Congo
Again my friend, you failed.
FACT: Mexico City is a dirty city. So?
So is every other Mega city in the world.
The most Pulluted Mega City? Yes, but…
What the hell does that have to do with me kicking your ass in your native togue or what does it has to do with the most powerful argument?
Again kid.
EEEEEPIIIIC FAIL
March 14th, 2010 at 8:24 pm
“250,000 people suffer from eye diseases”
My point is maybe you have an eye disease from living in Mexico City and that’s why you can’t read. LOL. Now that we cleared up that I’m right about that…
Its good you finally conceded that was I right. Now I’ll own you a little more…
Once again you are arguing about this stupid fucking infinite book. Let’s say I take an apple, and shrink it to 1/1,000th of its size…does it weigh the same?
March 14th, 2010 at 8:26 pm
@Emerald Magus
That is your opinion.
I think is otherwise. When Cap and Superman lift the book, Cap is the only who strugles. When cap gets knock down, Superman says that he will come back later for the book and also says to the limbo king, that he MAY need all the help he can provide.
How strong is the limbo king? as strong as ME
After that We SEE ULTRAMAN lifting the book with the multiverse inside by himself, so is safe to assume, that Superman MAY be able to do the same.
but even if we put it by any of you guys standards
Superman lifted HALF a book with the multiverse inside.
DARE ANYONE TO ANSWER, HOW MUCH IS THAT?
HOW MUCH WEIGHTS HALF OF THE MULTIVERSE?
March 14th, 2010 at 8:33 pm
Alberto, do you understand how inconsistent you are?
Superman + Captain Marvel have armwrestled to a tie how many times? Their strength is stated to be equal HOW MANY TIMES?
Now you claim only Captain Marvel struggles? Maybe its because he lifted MOST OF THE WEIGHT????
March 14th, 2010 at 8:39 pm
Alberto, you are basing Superman’s strength on an ISOLATED feat, performed by him AND Captain Marvel, of questionable worth shown by one writer (who obviously is clueless about what infinity means) in the 80 year history of Superman. You have failed to prove the book has infinite weight. Now you fall back on it having the multiverse growing inside? And you state Superman “MAY be able to lift it himself”? This feat, and this argument are both worthless. Don’t you have any feats of Superman doing something incredible by himself? I have plenty of scans if you need help here.
Really, how many Superman comics are there? Half a million? How many state he can lift infinite amounts of weight?
March 14th, 2010 at 8:43 pm
@Rick
I never said, that Mexico city is not a poluted city.
What the hell is wrong with you?
What are you smoking?
I just pointed out that all of your examples were stupid, because all of this cities cannot compare to the sheer size and population on Mexico city. Plus the Geography of the city makes it difficult to get rid of the air pollution, because is sorrounded by mountains.
That is why I showed you those facts.
But somehow, your little twisted mind thinks you are teaching me something.
Just to point this at you
“Its good you finally conceded that was I right. Now I’ll own you a little more”
I NEVER SAID MEXICO CITY WAS NOT A DIRTY CITY, Since I never said that, You cannot say you are right, because simce the begining I agree with you that MEXICO IS A DIRTY CITY. Again, your little twisted mind thinks otherwise, and puts words where they do not exist.
Like “attacking” in the surfer scan or Alberto saying “MEXICO IS THE CLEANEST CITY IN THE WORLD”
And You say, I am the one with eye diseases.
Maybe, since Boston, MA. Is a place of high research, you might be one of those test subjects and that make you imaging words, that are not actually there.
You have own nothing out of me kid, You have NEVER prove me wrong, so far.
You want to go again with the book? fine
No, if you shrink an apple it does not weight the same, however if you shirnk the apple and yourself, does the apple weights the same to you?
EEEEEPIIIC FAIL
March 14th, 2010 at 8:44 pm
LOL. EXACTLY. Most Thor feats shown here are Thor BY HIMSELF. LMFAO. Alberto’s BEST FEAT is Superman AND CAPTAIN MARVEL…lifting a book together. What a fucking dumbass.
March 14th, 2010 at 8:54 pm
DARE ANYONE TO ANSWER, HOW MUCH IS THAT?
HOW MUCH WEIGHTS HALF OF THE MULTIVERSE?
No one answered, so far
@Emerald Magus
If a guy can CONTAIN a mini black hole, then survived a DOUBLE black hole, then patch a tear in reality, then shatter time and space with his punches, what stops him for lifting a book with the multiverse inside?
I also have other scans, but this is the one EVERYBODY jumps for
Nobody has ever said anything about the shattering time and space with his punches, or the defeat of the cannibal planet in 3 pages.
I wonder why everyone wants this particular one out?
Maybe because it obliterates their case?
There are SEVERAL ISSUES where Superman is said to be as POWERFUL AS HE NEEDS TO BE.
Do I have to look for them?
So you can say
“that is inconsistent with the character”
@Rick
If Marvel is lifting most of the book, then Marvel is stronger, happy?
March 14th, 2010 at 8:57 pm
LOL Rick’s best argument is ALWAYS to insult me.
Thoug guy, behind his keyboard. priceless
How old are you?
March 14th, 2010 at 9:01 pm
Emerald Magus,
In terms of pure strength I totally agree with your list and with your footnote too.
Shame on you ShadowHunter calling anybody fanboy when you, Alberto & Delta are Giant Superman fanboy.
March 14th, 2010 at 9:07 pm
Darryl
Before you come here and start talking crap about me, see what I wrote to Real on the Thor vs Superman
HULK, please he can barelly shatter a meteor twice the size of earth and that is debatable.
Superman shatters planets with out even touching them.
You guys should read Superman or JLA comics, so you know what we are talking about
March 14th, 2010 at 9:13 pm

The same thing goes fo Shadow and Delta.
Unlike many here, WE read both companies

@General Grievous
You decide to show up
Care to ask ALL of my points or should I repost them?
March 14th, 2010 at 10:00 pm
Alberto: you live in your own little world. Its truly amazing that people who are stupid as you are actually exist.
March 14th, 2010 at 10:04 pm
@ Emerald Magus
“Alberto, you are basing Superman’s strength on an ISOLATED feat, performed by him AND Captain Marvel”
DID YOU JUST AGREE, THAT IN FACT SUPERMAN LIFT HALF OF THE MULTIVERSE WITH CAPTAIN MARVEL?
How much weights HALF of the MULTIVERSE???
March 14th, 2010 at 10:06 pm
@General Grievous
OK, That means NO!
You have no answer.
When you have an answer comeback
March 14th, 2010 at 10:32 pm
Alberto, I never read story that my (disclaimer) but from people who have read the story it seem you are put way to much into this feat. It’s sound like more hype then real. Thor strenght always has been shown to be consist with his feats. I believe that is what Rick is try to point out. Some time writer go over board with hype. I like Superman but doesn’t have infinity strenght or anything close to it; there are many issues that indicates this. Like Emerald Magus said probably 2nd or 3rd strongest hero because debatable if strong then Thor. Specially when Thor goes warrior maddness because increase strenght by ten fold.
The only hero capable of ininity strenght is the Hulk. As state before every other hero has limits even if very high like Superman, Thor & Captain Marvel.
March 14th, 2010 at 10:33 pm
I don’t remember who said that Odin Thor would beat Superboy Prime but that guy is stupid. Yes, he is above Anti-Monitor, why? ANTI-MONITOR HAD THE WHOLE GL AND JLA AGAINST HIM AND HE DIED. SUPERBOY PRIME HAD THE SAME GROUP AGAINST HIM AND HE SURVIVED. HE EVEN SURVIVED THE SUICIDE BLAST OF A GUARDIAN OF THE UNIVERSE, KICKED IONS ASS, KILLED ATLEAST 15 GREEN LANTERNS AND STILL, HE WAS JUST HAVING FUN. YOU KNOW WHAT HE WANT? HE WANTS TO BE THE MOST ANNOYING VILLAIN OF SUPERMAN. Oh and he’s still alive. Odin won’t even hurt him. It might even give him more strenght since he can absorb cosmic energy, magic and pure energy. Just take Superman. Superboy Prime is 10 times stronger than him. How is that not enought to beat Odin Thor… lol?
March 14th, 2010 at 10:36 pm
God, I am a fanboy? Nah, just giving you the real things. I bitched Wolverine but that guy is one of my favourite Superhero lol! My favourite villain? Venom. Favourite Superhero? Batman. Am I defending them? No way. I just freaking know that Superman is THE Superhero. PC Supergirl would beat Odin Thor. Since Superman is getting close to the PC limit, Regular Thor wouldn’t stand a chance. Like I said in Thor vs Superman, PC Wonder-Woman would beat Thor, even Odin. Go see my post.
March 14th, 2010 at 10:52 pm
@Darryl
So wait Darryl, are you telling me that if it was a Hulk feature, NO ONE WILL DISAGREE?
I have to tell you this.
While HULK in THEORY He is infinite strong, the biggest feat He has ever accomplish is to destroy an asteroid twice the size of earth.
Superman shatered time and space, which one is more impresive?
Thor going into warrior madness is me like saying Sun dip Superman. Plot device.
March 14th, 2010 at 10:56 pm
Oh and one more thing
I debate this feat so much, because people call it out that often, I’m just debunking their arguments.
EVERYTIME I DEBUNK ALL ARGUMENTS, then EVERYBODY MAGICALLY SAYS
“IS INCONSISTENT WITH THE CHARACTER”
This happens ONLY after the fact that I have prove them wrong.
WHY YOU THINK, THAT IS?
March 14th, 2010 at 11:00 pm
Oh wait, there is more
When they say “is inconsistent with the character”
Then I said this:
“If a guy can CONTAIN a mini black hole, then survived a DOUBLE black hole, then patch a tear in reality, then shatter time and space with his punches, what stops him for lifting a book with the multiverse inside?”
AND THEN, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. NEVER ANSWER THE QUESTION!!! WHY?
THE ONLY RESPONSE I get after that is always an insult.
You figure that one out.
March 14th, 2010 at 11:20 pm
“While HULK in THEORY He is infinite strong, the biggest feat He has ever accomplish is to destroy an asteroid twice the size of earth”
1) You can’t compare chars by feats of power. Is the greyhulk stronger than World Breaker Hulk ? I don’t think so.
2) That feat is not the biggest:

General Hulk : Learn how to make sentences without faults. That’s incredible! Anyway, if you only come here to say that, I would just say that the arguments Alberto is coming up with are just kicking your ass. Cmon She-Hulk, find something else.
March 14th, 2010 at 11:54 pm
Let’s see scans, fanboy.
March 14th, 2010 at 11:56 pm
“Debunked” our arguments?? LOLOLOL
Alberto, you must be the single most delusional person I’ve ever encountered.
March 14th, 2010 at 11:57 pm
There must be twenty people who think we’ve won the argument, and you and ShadowHunter (who might even be you anyway, considering you’re both equally bad spellers) who think you’ve won.
I rest my case.
March 14th, 2010 at 11:59 pm
Yeah, I’ve had the same thought myself. What are the odds of two drooling Superman fanboys on the same site, with the same HORRENDOUS spelling? I think ShadowHunter and Alberto are the same. I think he gets off on having a secret identity like his hero, Superman.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:10 am
Remember that issue of Superman when he dashes off to Superman and faces Metallo? Metallo overpowers Superman and nearly kills him thanks to the Kryptonite heart in his chest. ThenLex Luthor notices that Metallo may actually succeed in killing Superman…a feat reserved only for Lex Luthor. Luthor sends out a hovercraft, which abducts Metallo just as he is ready to finish Superman off.
What a great issue.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:12 am
Yeah, not as good as when Wonder Woman defeated an amped up Superman in Jimenez’s run #175 vol2. (But she was holding back). And then Wonder Woman defeated him again in #210 v2

WOW RICK, That scan is like almost 10 years old LOL
Personal clown, keep making an ass of yourself
March 14th, 2010 at 12:39 am
It’s not that there is more people agreeing with your opinion. There is just more Marvel fanboy kids on this website. We are 4 and still, we can still beat your arguments. You guys don’t even know shit about Superman or even DC lol. That’s funny. Rick is a pussy hiding behind other person. He won’t disagree on a argument alone. He needs to wait for another fanboy to answer first. He’s patethic. Get a brain and go to school you 10 years old boy.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:42 am
@General Grievous
Well last time, I remember, YOU never answer any of my questions and I DID CALL YOU OUT.
You just dissapear.
Which scan do you want?
I ASK AGAIN TO EVERYBODY
How much weights HALF of the MULTIVERSE?
March 14th, 2010 at 12:44 am
How old is Rick?
Rick, HOW OLD ARE YOU???
March 14th, 2010 at 12:50 am
@Rick
Wonder Woman defeating Superman only means that not because you are a more powerful character, you will always win.
This rule has always been shown in comic books, even against Galactus and Thanos with the infinity gauntlet.
Not because you are more powerful it means you are undefeatable
You are just too STUPID to understand it.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:54 am
@Emerald Magus
I forgot to answer one of your points like cuple of weeks ago.
Sorry, but with Rick polluting the forum with his stupidity, I forgot to answer it.

DID YOU SEE HIS ARM? That was behind a pure will shield
March 14th, 2010 at 1:11 am
“How much weights HALF of the MULTIVERSE?”
Hahaha. Dude can you please learn some grammar?? Please…
How much “weights” half the multiverse that’s shrunken to the size of a book? I don’t know. And neither do you. Tell me, how much did that “weight”?
Listen dude, you’ve been basing you’re argument for Superman being GOD based on ONE FEAT FROM 80 YEARS OF SUPERMAN COMICS, where Superman AND CAPTAIN MARVEL TOGETHER lift a book that may or may not even “weight” a lot. Big deal. Come up with a feat Superman does BY HIMSELF and maybe you’ll gain a little respect. (That and learn to spell, you dumb fuck).
You’ve been owned again.
March 14th, 2010 at 1:12 am
@General Grievous
I remember when I arrive to the forum, there was Delta and Millenium, pretty much Delta alone. Millenium will appear once in a while, he is a fun guy
Delta was BY HIMSELF, against at least 6 guys.
Until more people arrived and start siding with Delta. Then everybody start calling us cheerleaders, eventually most guys on the other side left . They got tired or just realized that We could Never agree, However, some of them aknowledge some Superman feats as pretty impresive and said that Thor could also perform the same feats, if he needed to. Unfortunatelly, That is called WISHFUL THINKING.
in short, Even ZERO is a Thor FAN, what makes you think, the place is not going to be full with Marvel fans, AFTER ALL, Brainiac, MARVEL SELLS MORE
Therfore is easy understandable, that there is more comic book readers on the MARVEL side.
Come on General, You are smarter than that.
Which argument have you won? Please refresh my memory

Contain a mini-black hole? Hahaha. I think any version of Superman holding a Black Hole should be thrown out, since there is nothing to grab, at all.

Uh, no, the context from the issue, having read it, is that the black hole in there is the size of “a speck of dust”, that it had a faltering magnetic field around it still helping to keep it back that was still glowing when supes grabbed it.
The context is it not the same as an actual black hole. You can certainly try to argue it wasn’t being presented as being on a far lesser scale, that Superman didn’t in addition actually say “even a miniature” as though to clearly differentiate from /his own narrative/. But if you want to start deciding hard science should apply there to prove how strong Superman is, and nowhere else, I’m going to start laughing.
The issue makes a big deal and specific point of differentiating it from the norm. If you want to argue it should be counted as the same anyway, that’s some amusing inconsistency.

@Emerald Magus
Was a Black Hole YES OR NO
Did it have the same properties as a black hole? Yes or no
Ok SINCE MR GREEN is so literall here.
SUPERMAN contained an artificial mini black hole.
Superman contained it before it expanded, The field containing the black hole was completelly out, when He grab it.
