megmanvssamus1.JPGHere at Old-Wizard we love to engage in utterly pointless debates, and can you think of a debate more pointless than an argument about who would win in a fight between two different video game characters? So, in the spirit of Old-Wizard, we decided to analyze who would in a fight between two of our all time favorite video game characters, namely Mega Man and Samus. We hope you enjoy meaningless discussion as much as we do, because if you do, you’ll love this article.

First of all, let me say that Mega Man is one of my all time favorite video game heroes. I also think he’d win in a fight with Samus (although I obviously think Samus is hotter). Why do I think Mega Man wins in a fight? There are four main reasons:

    1. Weapons: Mega Man has a unique weapons system that allows him to copy the weapon of any boss that he has defeated. Of course for some reason he loses these special weapons between games, but if you were to combine every weapon from every game that he has ever debuted in (which is a lot of games), then he has a much wider arsenal than Samus has.

Samus also has a unique range of weaponry, but instead of defeating various robot masters to find new weapons, she must find them in craters and secret rooms before she can utilize them. Also, depending on the game, in earlier versions, she could only use one beam weapon, while in later versions, she has the ability to combine beam weapons. Among her beam weapons, she has missiles, super missiles, bombs, power bombs, the infamous screw attack, and in later versions, the speed boost and the grapple beam.

Samus’ strongest weapon is probably the super missile. While Mega Man’s strongest weapon has been the subject of much debate, since you can go to his earlier games to find weapons that, amongst many other things, stop time and all the while allow him to keep attacking. Another big advantage for Mega Man is that most of Samus’ weapons only fire in a straight line. Also some of Mega Man’s weapons fire in multiple directions (especially the famed Metal Blade), and some others even have homing capabilities (Magnet Missile). Still, the screw attack gives Samus a massive edge. And, while Samus’ arsenal may seem more lethal because of the screw attack, you must also look at other things…for instance, the damage system.

    2. Damage System: Anytime Mega Man is hit he becomes invulnerable for a few seconds before he takes damage again. In a potential fight against Samus, he could use this to his advantage. Whereas Samus has little to no invulnerability period when she takes damage, thus giving Mega Man a clear edge here.

    3. Speed: As we all know, in any fight speed can be a deciding factor. So who’s faster, Mega Man or Samus? On the one hand, much like Mario, Samus must run constantly and uninterrupted for about 5 seconds before she can get a good speed boost. On the other hand, Mega Man can slide or dash (Mega Man X) anytime he chooses. Here again we have to give the clear edge to Mega Man.

    4. Maneuverability: Samus only has a space jump, and in later versions, a wall jump. Mega Man (in the Mega Man X games) can climb walls and hold onto them. Sort of an equal match here.

Personally, and professionally, my vote goes to Mega Man to win this fight. To some people Samus may seem like the better choice, but Mega Man has a much larger arsenal at his disposal. Of course this is assuming Mega Man has all of his weapons from all his different games at his disposal all at once. If he didn’t, the fight would be a lot more even, but I think Mega Man would win anyway. After all he has extra lives and sub tanks. Samus only has energy tanks. Three lives and four energy tanks will last longer than one life and six energy tanks.

I notice Samus is taller than Mega Man. This must mean something.

Sadly mega man can’t crouch… that’s gonna be a bit of a disadvantage for him right?

of course the only realy way to settle this is to put mega man in smash bros :P

u were cheatin in the vid every time the screen went black u gained health

  5. Not bad… not bad at all. I think this is, for the most part, an even match.
Megaman has speed and maneuverability, but Samus has FLEXIBILITY. Being able to space jump is definitely an advantage, as is the Morph Ball – Megaman cannot crouch.
All these things would make it quite difficult to hit Samus.

As such, it’s mostly even, but I think I’ll go with Samus on this one.

Just one problem. MegaMan is a robot and must not harm a human, or by inaction allow a human to come to harm.

Notice how he never kills Dr. Wiley. His Asimov circuit prevents it.

This article leaves out an important fact regarding Mega Man: his enormous physical strength. In Mega Man 5, he lifts an entire section of Dr. Wily’s fortress. In Mega Man: The Power Fighters, he can knock over building sized robots with a punch. Similarly, in Mega Man 6, he bats the X-Crusher (a machine that takes up the majority of the screen) around like a beach ball.

Samus’s armor may give her some superhuman strength as well, but she has no physical feats to match Mega Man. If she takes the fight in close or Mega Man stops time, he could literally crush her in her suit or yank her out.

agreed to the guy who said he had a spiike flaw……btw samus has a freeze beam and immunity to extreme heat and cold and her suit does damage cuz it is hot and or cold…..and she can withstand waterpressure and gravity. megaman can only take powers when he defeats the enemy however so does samus
