Even though a couple of months have passed since we published our controversial Worst Video Game Systems of All Time list, we still continue to receive plenty of hate mail from Sega fanboys about it. This week we decided to address some of their concerns…
Tom writes:
What is is with you and your praising on Nintendo. Your list of worst consoles (Virtual boy would be higher, but it’s nintendo….), Worst gaming sites (Sega-Nerds), Worst characters (Sonic). Yeah, I can understand that you are a dumb ignorant kid that adores Nintendo, and that you never even heard of other consoles, and make a list by putting a few Sega consoles on it. But your list of worst gaming related sites….you just picked Sega-Nerds, because its Sega and they laughed at your for your ignorance with the top 5 worst consoles, didn’t you?
Dear Tom,
I hate to be the one who points this out, mainly because it’s probably more insulting to you coming from a “dumb ignorant kid”, but there is a critical flaw in your question. How could we have simultaneously have never heard of other systems and write about them. Its an interesting little problem. I’m not calling you dumb, or ignorant for that matter, but it would seem that a man of superior logic (such as yourself) would have seen this and perhaps corrected it. Despite this glaring error, you may have inadvertently stumbled onto an interesting point. Did we, in fact, add Seganerds to our list because they laughed at our “ignorance”? The answer is no. We added Seganerds to our worst websites list in hopes of waking them up from their ignorance. You see Tom, Sega is a failed system, from a failed company that produced many other failed systems and half-baked ideas. The fact remains that Nintendo has always been the innovator, the idea men if you will, and has always made the better systems and is the better company. That is not to say that Sega had nothing, there are a few descent games, generally speaking loose copies of Nintendo ideas, so it is okay to like Sega. As long as you and all your fan-boy friends recognize the fact that Nintendo is better. There is no argument that can be made to the opposite. I truely do not understand how people deceive themselves into thinking that. So to summarize; Its okay to like Sega, we don’t care, but just be sure you understand it is the inferior product, always has been always will be.

Hey Gamesta,
By “Gamesta’s question”, I meant the question directed at you. Apologies for the confusion.
I think one could conjure up a list of great SNES games to rival the ones I’ve listed, though I personally believe the Genesis list to be larger, I do think it’d be pretty close.

There are fan-boys, and then there are people who just hate a certain system/company. Anyone who reads OW knows how much we love Nintendo, but our fans also know from our past articles how much we love X-box, and especially the Playstation consoles. Not only that, but you will see a decent amount of PC game coverage on our site as well. (Note the reviews of Sierra Games, and the high placements of games from the Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft series on our Top 100 Video Games List).
Just because some attacks a certain system doesn’t make them fan-boys. The term is usually used as a last resort of someone who has no actual arguments.

I counted both lists. Mine has 34 great games. Yours has 24.

SNES had more than Crono Metroid and Zelda what about Secret of Mana, Mario World, Mario RPG, Mario Kart, F-Zero, Star Fox, Yoshi’s Island, Castlevania 4, ActRaiser, DK Country, Killer Instinct, SimCity, Final Fantasy 3, Earthbound, Super Punch-Out, Legend of The Mystical Ninja, Super Double Dragon, Tetris Attack?

No, OW, your argument 4 genesis as worst console ever is NOT logical. it’s basically just saying that, if sega makes a good console, then it’s the worst console ever.
