Top 5 Video Games You’re Currently Playing if You’re a Frat Boy
We all know the frat boy type. When they enter into college, it’s party time 24/7 along with everyone else who feels entitled to spend their parents’ money on frat boy activities. The frat boy needs to fit into all walks of his friends’ life, so if that means playing some video games then so be it. There’s a difference though between the traditional video gamer and the frat boy video gamer. The frat boy video gamer only plays games that tend to induce chest bumps and cracking beer cans over their head when successful in one of the games. It’s a rare occurrence when you find someone in a frat playing Final Fantasy 3 for instance. You can rest assured that they would be kicked out of their frat if the “head brother” found them playing a game with an actual dialog. -
Top 10 Worst NES Games
Everything in our past is nostalgic. We look back on our days of school, vacations, hell even arrests, with a strange fondness that seems to increase with age. The NES was definitely a breakthrough in gaming. We at Old-Wiz look back on it with a rose colored blindfold sometimes, but it wasn’t all roses. There were some horrible stinkers that we spent our measly allowances on back in the day. This week we took a break from trumpeting our youth to get cranky on the old NES for a spell, so here it is, the top ten NES crap-sticks. Enjoy. -
Top 10 Ways to Tell if You Spend Too Much Time on Video Game Forums
Anyone who visits video game forums knows that there are people who spend a little too much of their free time on these boards. There comes a point where the gamer needs to get off the forum for a while, at least for a week, to refresh their memory on who they are in real life. This is not to say that all people who go on video game forums will be on this list, but definitely some, and some that we see every day. We think it’s in everyone’s self interest to recognize if they’re spending too much time on video game forums by seeing if they fall within one of these categories.

Top 5 Blizzard Games
Blizzard is easily one of the greatest PC game creators of all time. Unlike many companies who release game after game, the people at Blizzard take their time and release only the most epic games. They are the definition of quality over quantity. They have even been known to pull games months before release because they aren’t completely satisfied with the product. We here at OW have always been huge fans of Blizzard and actually wish that their games weren’t so good. Hours of my life have been and still are being burned away staring at my computer screen trying to invade that last base or get that last piece of epic gear. Every game is Blizzard’s best game and with the release of the new WOW expansion and on the eve of the releases of sequels to both Starcraft and Diablo, here is our two cents on the matter.

Top 15 RPGs of All Time
It is hard to argue for a better video game genre than the RPG. No genre before or after has instilled such wonder and nostalgia in the video gamer. When playing the likes of racing or fighting games, one is enveloped by the momentary pleasure of winning a fight or driving as fast as you can to finish a race. The RPG though is quite the opposite of these genres. Anyone accustomed to RPG’s knows what they’re in store for before the game even starts; Endless hours of game play, always-evolving story lines, and perennial character development. The RPG is for the tortoise, not the hare, and would always prove to bring the most satisfaction to the gamer who was willing to let the parables of patience surround their being. In this list, we go through the 15 greatest RPG’s of all time with a focus on the games that were not just games, but timeless pieces of art.

Top 5 Super Mario Brothers Games
As with most old school gamers, the Super Mario Brothers games have been a staple part of our diet here at Old-Wizard.com since the days of our short pants. We grew up with Super Mario 1 on the NES, and twenty five some odd years later we’re playing Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii. That’s why this was one of the hardest lists we’ve ever had to make. Deciding between the top 3 was almost impossible. It took hours of arguing, and lots of beers, but we finally came up with a list we could all agree with. Hope you enjoy! -
Top 10 Lamest Mega Man Bosses
When Mega Man 1 came out for the NES, it was appropriate that the basic elements were represented as bosses in the game. After Mega Man 1 though, there was Mega Man 2 and 3 which had some of the most innovative bosses in the series. Who could forget the likes of Gemini Man and Snake Man who both made our “Top Ten Bosses from the Mega Man series” list. After Mega Man 3 though, the games decreased in quality and along with this decrease, the creative ideas for the bosses decreased. In this list, we will go through the robot masters that blew our mind in how poor they were as ideas for bosses. -
Ten Steps to Making a Successful FPS
With the release of “Left 4 Dead” for the Xbox 360, First Person Shooter (FPS) fans have come crawling out of their closets in as great of numbers as the zombies that attack you in these games. What’s the appeal of the first person shooter that makes these gamers keep coming back for more? In this list we’ll go through the ten steps needed to make a FPS that some gamers call “amazing” with sheepish predictability. The steps are fairly simple and are used in most, if not all the FPS games that have been released since Doom 1. Once the awareness of the predictability becomes more conscious, then maybe gamers will expect more out of these types of games.

Video Game Review: Left 4 Dead
Valve releases Left 4 Dead with as much fanfare as any game before it. For the past couple of weeks all we keep hearing from our readers is “Review Left 4 Dead, review Left 4 Dead”. Well, we have played it, and we’re reviewing it now. Unfortunately for this game though, there wasn’t much to review as it replicated most of the modern day first person shooter video games that we’ve played so many times before. You’ve got guns, you’ve got zombies, and you’ve got dark rooms. Snore Fest even after playing through the first scenario. -
Top 10 Video Game Clichés
Clichés are found in everything from music to movies to anything where creativity finds a home. This is no different with the video game medium, which mimics past ideas to no end. Why tamper with a formula for success? Repetition has been the basis of our great civilization, and so it comes as no surprise that there are numerous clichés in the video game medium. Some of the clichés we can do with. Some of them actually make us happy when we see them all the time. Others however are just plain annoying and we will go through these in this list. Here then are the top 10 most used clichés in video game history.
