The Beer Guide For Nerds: Part 1
True nerds, as we all know, are not solely stuck on Star Wars and algorithms. A nerd wants to understand every single particle of their universe. This superhuman thirst for knowledge sometimes comes at the expense of social interaction. How can we be expected to want to engage in conversation with people who don’t know the difference between a theory and a hypothesis, let alone how to develop either before they decide to open their loud mouths? Although I digress, there is a method to my mentioning thirst and mouths, and that is beer. I brew my own beer, and when I do so it looks more like a high school chemistry class than a kitchen. There are sterile gloves, lab coats, Pyrex beakers and graduated cylinders, gas burners, thermometers and hydrometers, and three glorious ingredients that, through several stages of reactions, produce the fruits of man’s greatest scientific experiments: beer, my friends, beer.

Album Review: Oasis Dig Out Your Soul
Plod rock gains a new meaning
Oasis’s previous album “Don’t Believe the Truth” was a return to form of sorts for Oasis. Noel Gallagher’s impeccable songwriting was matched with a creativity missed since “Standing on the Shoulder of Giants”, even as this later album had its obvious missteps. With the new lineup firing on all cylinders with “Don’t Believe the Truth”, the Oasis fan was ready for the next album that would take them into a musical peak. We kept hearing about thousand piece orchestras layered over each other and grooves that resembled the best of Madchester circa 1990. The new songs were going to be reminiscent of “Columbia” off of their debut album “Definitely Maybe”. With Dig Out Your Soul, Oasis certainly hit a groove, unfortunately it’s a groove as dry and plodding as a rotting piece of wood. With Dig Out Your Soul, Oasis are on autopilot. This can be good for some bands, but definitely not for Oasis, who publicly and consistently pride themselves on antiquity. What Noel Gallagher fails to realize though, is that the justification for antiquity in music can become an antiquated notion itself. This is the sound of “Dig Out Your Soul”.

OW Investigative Series: Violence in Video Games
Part 2: Q*Bert
In our last investigative report we covered the real world violence that Donkey Kong had caused between plumbers and gorillas. In this report we take a look at another game that rocked both the United States and the world abroad. This game was, of course, Q*bert. Before Q*bert’s release in 1982, pyramids were known as the most peaceful of all three dimensional geometries, and afterward they were known only as places of violence and graffiti. Q*bert was a violent foray into a dark and dangerous world, where people’s heads and color schemes were the target of malicious attacks.

Top 10 Ways to Tell if You’re a Poser Nerd
Being a nerd these days is as fashionable as mimicking Audrey Hepburn-esque poses when one knows they’re being photographed. Everyone wants to be nerd. Its socially sexy, and everywhere we hear people saying “well at heart, I’m just a nerd”. What these people don’t know though, is that there are a group of real nerds who grew up drinking Mountain Dew and collecting Star Wars action figures. Their bedrooms were filled with He-Man posters and X-Wings attached to their ceilings. Those who say they’re really “nerds at heart” never endured an entire night of Dungeon and Dragons or planned an entire day out to beat Mega Man 1-8. In this list, we’ll go through the most conspicuous signs of a poser nerd. This list is meant to champion those who actually had an interest in what’s now marginalized.

Top 10 80’s Cartoons
Oh the 80’s. The decade that gave us the Wonder Years, Who’s the Boss, great video games and a flippant hairstyle as high as a skyriser. What else could the 80’s be known for? What about all the great cartoons that came out in the 80’s? In this list, we will go through what we think are the top 10 cartoons from the 80’s. These are the cartoons that we watched after school, before school, on weekends, and any time we had the privilege to tape the shows on our VCR (mostly after school though). We wanted to revisit these gems to let everyone remember how amazing cartoons were in their yesteryear. We thought about these cartoons in our sleep and talked about them at class during the day. Here then are our the greatest cartoons of the 80’s.

Top 10 Mega Man X Bosses
Mega Man X was filled with much more creative bosses than the original Mega Man series for the NES. Its not like we’re knocking the original series, but the name “Boomer Kuwanger” is much more inspired than “Hard Man”. In this list, we’ll go through what we think were the top ten bosses from the Mega Man X series. Most of the choices will be from the first three Mega Man X’s as we feel that the series started to spiral downward after the initial three in the series (like most video games series). Mega Man X 1 has the most placements in this list. We feel the most creative bosses came from this initial game in the series. Here then are our top ten Mega Man X bosses. -
Top 10 Most Overrated Games
Oh boy, this is ganna be a controversial one. Your favorite game of all time listed on Old-Wizard’s most overrated video games of all time? Surely it can’t be! You know us though, we have a knack for knocking down the typical things people enjoy. In this list, we tried to think of games that just plain piss us off because everyone loves them and we think they’re total ass. Going into our thinking process when considering these overrated games were a lack of creativity and a lack of entertainment that these games possessed for us. We don’t understand why anyone would play them more than twice, but sometimes people do and other people think the game is good for this reason.
